Who was Nan McKay?
One of the original tenants to move into the area, Nan soon realised that many of the tenants were lonely and elderly and that as a new council estate, the St. Andrews Drive area did not have a lot to offer.
Organising the Pollokshields Tenants Association and sorting out the local public transport was just the start. With help from other enthusiastic residents, Nan went on to organise trips, parties and eventually started a campaign for a Hall. The Nan McKay Memorial Community Hall is named in memory of her dedicated hard work for the community of Pollokshields. |
